Gucci started similarly as Hermes. Guccio Gucci turned his family owned saddlery and leather goods shop into successful luxury fashion company. When Guccio died in 1953 his sons took over the business and expanded overseas. They opened shops in Philadelphia, San Francisco and other USA cities. Gucci company already had the aristocratic appeal - GG monogrammed products were worn by Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, John Wayne, Jacqueline Onassis and Princess Margaret of England.
